"The Sancerre “Terroir Silex” from Monsieur Fiou is a lovely wine made from sixty-four year-old vines on the hillsides of Saint-Satur. This is on the eastern end of the Sancerre appellation and unique in having a high percentage of flint in the soils here, like Pouilly-Fumé on the other side of the river. The 2019 bottling is young and lovely, jumping from the glass in a mix of gooseberry, tangerine, flinty minerality, cut grass and citrus blossoms in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and intensely flavored, with an excellent core, fine mineral signature, zesty acids and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish. Fine juice. 2020-2027. "
