Saumur Blanc Lena
100% Chenin Blanc. Lena is named for Fredrik Filliatreau’s Swedish mom and is made from a combination of estate and purchased fruit; the estate fruit is in conversion to organic farming. Whole bunches are direct-pressed and the juice fermented to dry-to-nearly-dry (4 grams RS in the warm vinrtage of 2018) with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged in tank on its fine lees until bottling around 6 months after harvest.Fredrik Filliatreau's father Paul ripped out most of the original Chenin vines back in 1990 in order to plant more Cabernet Franc. But recently they have planted 2 hectares of Chenin in the village of Brézé (10 kilometers east of Saumur, near their Château Fouquet plot), so the small production will increase over time.
