Savigny-les-Beaune "Aux Fournaux"

Starting with the 2018 vintage, the domaine chose to blend the 1er Cru Fourneaux into the village wine and it's now labeled Savigny-les-Beaune Fournaux, after the site. The Villages has always come from the Fournaux parcel, which sits just next to the 1er Cru. Claude and Francois like how the Villages and 1er Cru tasted blended, giving the village level wine more density and complexity.

"Beginning with this vintage, the de Nicolay family has opted to bottle blend their communal and premier cru holdings in this lieu-dit together, so the 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Fourneaux includes two-thirds premier cru juice. It's a lovely wine in the making, wafting from the glass with notes of raspberries, plums and peonies mingled with hints of currant leaf, dark chocolate and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, it's fleshy and enveloping, with fine concentration and melting tannins."

" A brooding and reticent nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark berry fruit that is cut with earth and pretty floral wisps. There is fine volume to the intense, serious and nicely detailed middle weight flavors that terminate in a lingering and solidly complex finish that evidences a touch of rusticity. This is a very good Savigny villages and worth checking out."
