ID: 1044313205854330407 Welcome, Gomariz "X" 2014, to the kick-ass, diverse family of Bowler Albarios, including such stalwart gems as Pedraloga "Vendetta" and Benito Santos "Bemil" "Xoan" and "Saiar." And let's not forget Clos Saron's Carte Blanche 2014 is half Albario! (Other half is Verdelho.) Gomariz is located in Ribeiro, in Southern Galicia. Most of the terroir here is granite, but this baby comes from Schist, known as Xisto there, hence the name: "X." It's fermented using only natural yeasts and is aged on the lees until bottling. Great concentration, full of salty minerality and copious citrus fruit. No Chablis lover would be able to put down a glass of this. #cotodegomariz #gomariz #albarino #ribeiro #galicia9 years 11 months ago

ID: 1039482403144490437 ...then came the real mccoy: BALUT! Resident expert @migueld1 approximated that these duck embryos were about 8 days old and thus authentic representations of the Filipino taste; in Vietnam they are consumed at a decidedly crunchier 12-14 days of age. Savory, umami-ful, a little funky and dankly decadent. Thanks for the VIP treatment #curesupperclub ! Next time I balut, I think some fino is in order. Other Balut pairing ideas, @migueld1 ? #filipinoeats #aphrodisiaceats #evileats #jeepney9 years 11 months ago

ID: 1039478186694565041 First came Balut Kung - which polyglot sommelier @migueld1 translated as "sort of Balut." He eased us into the concept of eating developing duck embryo with this delicious composition of confit duck, onsen egg (cooked to gooey perfection over 4 hrs), cured duck breast and adobo gastrique. Turns out you can warm just about anyone up to a culinary idea with the right amount of duck confit, eh #curesupperclub? #filipinoeats #balut #GGbalutpairing9 years 11 months ago

ID: 1036519652797341229 Agustn @agustin_farrais of Tajinaste gave us an incredible tour of his vineyards. What you are seeing is his highest elevation Listn Negro vines, located in the Carratera de medianas on Tenerife. Note the presence of the clouds - we're at about 600m altitude. #tajinaste #canaryislands #islascanarias #tenerife #bodegadefamilia #familywinery #vines #gardenofeden9 years 11 months ago

ID: 1035629620666457874 What else do they eat in the Canary Islands? Part 4: QUESO. Lourdes Fernandez of Crater winery and her son Carlos prepared us an amazing meal (see previous post) which concluded with this glorious cheese plate. Lourdes' observed that while the potential of Canary Islands' wine is incredibly high, the potential of the CHEESE is higher. Queso de cabra (goat cheese) is the most typical type here, though there is some queso de oveja (sheep's milk cheese). The cactus jam (not pictured) was a perfect compliment with the young goat cheese (5 o'clock) and with the 7 year old Cuban rum, yeah, we were all in paradise. #crater #canarycuisine #tenerife #instacheese9 years 12 months ago

ID: 1035621148591807506 "Paella Canaria" - this is part 3 in response to the question, "What do they eat in the Canary Islands?" Today we learned about paella with incomparable depth of flavor, made from the most plentiful protein source on the island of Tenerife, rabbit (conejo) plus thyme and rosemary. The rice variety is Bomba, and yes, it is the bomb. #canarycuisine #crater #islascanarias #tenerife #onemealperdayistoomuch9 years 12 months ago

ID: 1035419275045789242 To continue the answer to the question, "What do they eat in the Canary Islands," we present the group's favorite dish so far: fresh fried Canarian sardines (sardinas fritas). A perfect pairing with Vitgo's zippy, spicy 2014 Listn Negro-based rosado. Step 1: squeeze the lemon slice liberally. Step 2: Pull out the spine 3. Eat - including the head. #canarycuisine #tenerife #islascanarias #freshfish #yum9 years 12 months ago

ID: 1035378964160470826 Frontn de Oro features the Roque Nublo (Rock in the Clouds) on their labels, which yesterday we were able to admire in person. The 67 meter basalt rock is the 2nd highest peak on the island of Gran Canaria, and, like many things here, was formed about 5 million years ago in a volcanic eruption. #basalt #frontondeoro #grancanaria #islascanarias #geology9 years 12 months ago

ID: 1035016996278918744 Gran Canaria, home of Frontn de Oro, felt and smelled liked Colorado to many of us. We spent much of the day climbing up to the island's peak, over a mile high in the sky, before heading to the Frontn de Oro vineyards, most of which are at about 1300 meters. The air here is thin and crisp and smells like pine trees (the supposedly fire-resistant Pino Canario, to be exact.) #whatatrip #islascanarias #grancanaria #davidbowlerwine #frontondeoro9 years 12 months ago

ID: 1034266544008486813 To all of the @bodegabermejo fans who have wondered about the tree on the label, here you go. The Araucaria is originally from Chile and is one of few species that can survive this tough (read: practically lunar) environment. This beauty is growing right next to the bodega. #lanzarote #islascanarias #floradelanzarote9 years 12 months ago
