Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

2023

This cuvee comes entirely from the Les Serres parcel and is primarily the fruit that used to make up the “Favier” and “Giraud” wines. 100% whole cluster made mostly in demi-muids; some amphora and glass demi-johns are also used. 75% old-vine Grenache, 12% Cinsault, 11% Mourvedre, and 2% Syrah.

"Based on the same blend of 65% Grenache with lots of Cinsault, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape is gorgeous, showing kirsch, blackberries, sappy spring flowers, pepper, and subtle minerality with an almost scorched earth-like character. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, seamless and layered, it has ultra-fine tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's another sensationally layered, seamless wine from this estate that would best most Grand Cru Red Burgundies in a blind tasting and reminds me slightly of the 2020. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 15 years."

"The summer flowers pour from the glass of this seductive Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Wonderfully silky tannins on the graceful, full-bodied palate that feels lighter in alcohol than it really is. Very long, soft and silky finish that pulls you back for more of this elixir."

"A perfumed, elegant and complex version, with inviting, high-toned notes of red currant and cherry draped with warm licorice. The palate starts out supple, then solid ballasts of graphite and fine tannins firm everything up for a fresh, focused finish that wafts with smoked sandalwood. Brown bread, cinnamon and nutmeg add complexity, with penetrating mineral depth. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre."

"The 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape unwinds with fragrant orange rind, ripe black cherry, licorice, crushed violets and dried herbs of pronounced intensity. Grounded in soft tannins and offering outstanding balance through uplifting acidity, the medium- to full-bodied 2023 comes with secure aging potential."

"A blend of 65% Grenache Noir, 20% Cinsault, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah, Ferrando’s 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape reveals a fresh, gourmand bouquet of violet, dark berries, cherries and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, round and seamless, it’s perfectly balanced with a juicy core of fruit, velvety tannins and a perfumed, flamboyant finish. This is a stunning wine."
