Morgon

France
Beaujolais
2022

100% Gamay. From the Bellevue lieu-dit in Morgon near the Côte du Py. The vines are planted on a slight, south-facing slope on sandy, schistous, granitic soils. The farming is sustainable and the harvest by hand. As for all Terres Dorées wines, the vinification is traditional Burgundian: the bunches are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts and without sulfur in concrete tank. The maceration lasts around 4 weeks. The wine is aged in concrete for 6-8 months and bottled with a light, non-sterile filtration and minimal sulfur.

"Jean-Paul Brun’s 2022 Morgon is a deep, pure and structured example of the vintage that is going to be a superb wine once it is ready to drink, but it is going to need plenty of cellaring time to soften up its tannic structure. The wine comes in at a svelte 12.5 percent alcohol in this vintage and offers up a precise and nascently complex aromatic constellation of black cherries, pomegranate, sweet cranberries, pigeon, woodsmoke, espresso, fresh thyme and dark and stony soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, focused and full-bodied, with a rock solid core of fruit, great mineral drive and grip, ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, well balanced and tangy finish. This is going to be outstanding, but patience will most assuredly be required. 2035-2075+. "
