Rosé (Gamay/Cabernet Franc) Barsotti Vineyard

United States
California
2024

The 2024 rosé is a 70% Gamay and 30% Cabernet Franc blend from the high elevation and granitic soils of Barsotti Vineyard in El Dorado. At nearly 3000 ft, Barsotti is one of the highest elevation vineyards in Northern California. The extreme nature of the vineyard with its high elevation and proximity to the Sierra Nevada Mountains create the temperature swings that are ideal for slow physiological ripening and acid retention. The decomposed 'pink' granite soils reflect those of some of the finest sites in Northern Beaujolais, which inspired the original planting in 2005. The vines here are organically farmed on a unique vertical tree-like style rarely seen in California viticulture. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed to stainless steel for fermentation before a 6-month élevage in neutral puncheons before blending and bottling to preserve acidity and freshness. The 2024 rosé shows aromas of stone fruit, spring flowers, and grapefruit peel, with citrus, melon, strawberry, and sea salt on the palate. 12.5% abv.
