Rosé "Zéro" Brut Nature (2017 Base)

France
Champagne
NV

50% Chardonnay/44% Pinot Noir/6% Pinot Meunier from organically farmed, hand-harvested estate vines. The vines are grown across 63 parcels in 4 villages near Oeuilly in the Vallée de la Marne and average around 40 years old. The parcels are all vinified separately. The Tarlants' "Zero" rosé isone of the rare few rosé Champagnes made by maceration of the red fruit rather than by simply adding a bit of finished red wine to a white base. The Pinot Noir is destemmed, very slowly pressed, briefly macerated; the small amount of Meunier is handled similarly; the Chardonnay is direct-pressed. The three separate wines are aged in Burgundy barrels for 6 month without malolactic fermentation and then blended after a meticulous barrel-by-barrel tasting. The final rosé blend is typically around 75% current-vintage base wine with 25% reserve wine, in this case with a base of 2017. It was bottled in July 2018 and disgorged in February 2023. Zero dosage.

"The NV Brut Nature Rosé Zero is another terrific wine from Tarlant. Rose petal, chalk, mint, white flowers and crushed rocks all grace this deep yet wonderfully translucent Rosé. The blend is 50% Chardonnay, 44% Pinot Noir and 6% Meunier, based on 2017 with added reserve wines. Disgorged: January 2023."

" The new release of Benoît and Mélanie Tarlant’s Brut Nature Rosé is from the base year of 2017 and was given five years aging sur lattes, prior to its disgorgement in January of 2023. The wine this year is crafted from a cépages of fifty percent chardonnay, forty-four percent pinot noir and six percent pinot meunier. The wine is a beautiful salmon color and reveals a bright and complex bouquet of watermelon, blood orange, macadamia nut, chalky soil tones, rose petals and brioche. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, precise and complex, with a beautiful core of fruit, lovely soil undertow and grip, refined mousse and a long, beautifully balanced and wide open finish. This is a superb bottle of impeccably balanced Brut Nature Rosé that is drinking splendidly on release, but has the potential to age gracefully for twenty years or more. Most impressive! 2025- 2045+.
