Rueda (Verdejo)

Rueda
2025

This wine takes its name from the vineyard from which the grapes are sourced. (The name of the vineyard comes from long ago, when to access the vineyard was through a big stone portal; the local people started to call it Viña El Portalón—literally, Big Door Vineyard—and the name stuck.)

From sandy soils, and vineyards planted in high altitude, this verdejo made in stainless enchanted us with its floral, expressive aromas and rich palate. The grapes are de-stemmed crushed carefully, so as not to extract bitter and tannic flavors from the seeds; cold maceration for 6-8 hours. Fermented in steel and stays on lees for 3 months before bottling.

"The Verdejo from Bodegas Cerrosol hails from the high altitude vineyard of Viña El Portalón, which they choose to name the wine after. The vineyard is planted on sandy soils with ungrafted vines. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for three months on its fine lees. The 2025 version offers up a bright and expressive bouquet of lime, green apple, damp grass, a lovely base of soil and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, crisp and full- bodied, with a fine core of fruit, excellent soil signature, a good spine of acidity and a long, complex and nicely balanced finish. This is a very fine example of Verdejo. 2026-2033."
