Saint-Amour "La Poulette"

France
Beaujolais
2020

Domaine de la Pirolette makes two single-vineyard wines, each showcasing a different terroir found within Saint-Amour. The "Poulette" comes from pink granite and is vinified entirely in cement eggs. The shape allows the lees to be contantly moving. The "Poulette" has a great attack, with gorgeous, lifted rasperry and black cherry fruit with a mineral back bone. Total production is 200 cases.

"The 2020 vintage of the single vineyard bottling of la Poulette from Gregory Barbet is ripe and black fruity in personality, coming in listed at fourteen percent octane and offering up a sappy bouquet of cassis, black cherries, coffee bean, dark soil tones, hung game and a topnote of bonfire. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, broad-shouldered and tangy, with a fine core of black fruit, good soil signature and grip, firm, chewy tannins and a long, focused and complex finish. This is approachable today, but really deserves a handful of years in the cellar to allow its backend tannin to soften up a bit more. It will age long and gracefully."
