Producers from Rías Baixas

Albariño is easily a contender for one of the world’s best whites. It takes over about 75% of this river valley’s vineyards. The elegant, steely, minerally, and fragrant wine is Rias Baixas’ claim to fame. In Galicia, the influence of the Atlantic Ocean brings cool temperatures, long growing seasons, and lots of rainfall in the winter and spring months. The cooler growing conditions are perfect for Albariño and allow its citrus and mineral flavors to shine through. Because the many of the wines from this region are mostly made at small bodegas, and the vines are difficult to cultivate producing low in yields in most years, the wines are rarely inexpensive but certainly worth their price.
