Hōra is new wine from ‘A Vita, first produced in the 2025 vintage.  It is mostly Mantonico Bianco, with a little Greco Bianco.  The vineyard of Mantonico, planted in 2017 on the north-facing hillside of Muzzunetto, was the first plot that Francesco planted completely from scratch.  One of the parents of Catarratto, Mantonico is historically more known to make passito wines in the south of Calabria, but Francesco presciently saw its contemporary side.  It’s a variety that is drought resistant and high in polyphenols, while also maintaining high acidity and fruitiness in the wines.   The must is deliberately oxidized before fermentation, paradoxically to gird it against later oxidation and to drop some of its color pigment.  Vinified and aged in stainless steel, the wine is quite upright, showing preserved lemon, underripe apricot, gastronomic versatility and sneaky drinkability at the table.
