A very special single vineyard of 50-year-old vines with a sandy clay top soil and sand and gravel in the subsoil. Aged for 24 months in 2,000L barrels. Ratschen has darker fruit than the Weinberg and is quite structured with very fine tannins. It has deft balance - a football player who practices ballet for strength.

"A regal wine that is very rich and deep, but also refined in its balance and graceful in its movement over the palate. The concentrated, fine tannins sit calmly in the midst of all this, directing the action. Very subtle, rooty and spicy character that slowly unfurls at the very long finish."

"The 2019 Blaufränkisch Ried Ratschen shows an open, quite fragrant and aromatic, silky-elegant and comparatively precise nose of dark cherries and crystalline rock. Silky, full-bodied, deep and elegant on the palate, with ripe fruit, fine tannin and crystalline acidity, this is a full-bodied, quite smooth and almost creamy, very elegant Blaufränkisch with an almost salty note on the finish. It's an exciting and certainly long-lived red wine from the Eisenberg, which should be among the finest in the region this vintage."
