Ehrenhausen "Korallenkalk" Sudsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc

Austria
Styria
2021

Ehrenhausen is one of the main villages where Tement has vineyards. The vineyards in Ehrenhausen are characterized by fertile coralline limestone soil that contains fossilized seashells, called muschelkalk in German. The mineral soil requires a particularly slow and gentle maturation time. After natural fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months on the lees in big, neutral oak casks and stainless steel tanks. It's bottled unfiltered. Alc. 12.5 % Vol. 1.2 g/l residual sugar - dry. 6.3g acidity.

"From loamy coralline limestone and vinified slowly in old large oak casks (one fermented until April this year!), the 2021 Ehrenhausen Korallenkalk is the only village wine Tement is producing, and it is always a pure Sauvignon Blanc. The unfiltered wine displays an intense citrus color and offers an intense and concentrated, quite spectacular nose with grapefruit and lemon as well as iodine notes. Full-bodied, fresh and saline on the palate, this is an intense and lush, very elegant and even refined, yeasty-textured but clear and seriously tensioned, very mineral Sauvignon with elegant citrus aromas on the long and complex finish. This is a quite spectacular wine at this price point, and it already tastes terrific, even just two weeks after bottling. 13% stated alcohol. Glass stopper. Tasted in May 2023."
