100% Gamay from Witters Vineyard in Camino, El Dorado County. Witters sits at 3,300 ft elevation with plantings on volcanic clay loam soils. Spring frosts are always a threat at this elevation, and 2022 brought two frost events that reduced yields greatly (the vineyard only produced 1.5 tons over 7 acres!). The resulting wine is concentrated and structured, showing cherry fruit with alpine herbs and great winerality. The wine was fermented with foot-crushed whole clusters in open-top fermenters before aging in neutral oak barrels.
