Soplar

Spain
Rioja
2023

The light and easy-going Soplar is made from Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes from numerous plots in Rioja Alta, around San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Ábalos, planted between 450-650m elevation. As all Moraza wines, biodynamic practices are observed and the wine is also certified organic. The terroir here is mainly clay and limestone soils. The wine ferments and ages in concrete.

"The 2023 Rioja “Soplar” from Bodega Moraza is done in the old fashioned “clairette” style of Rioja. The wine comes in at 12.5 percent octane and is fairly light in color. It offers up a beautiful, spicy bouquet of red and black raspberries, Rioja spice tones, a lovely base of soil tones, cigar smoke and a touch of clove in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and succulent in personality, with a lovely core of fruit, good soil undertow, only a wisp of tannin and a long, complex and nicely balanced finish. Good juice. 2025-2035."
