"The 2023 vintage of Vijariego Blanco from Viñátigo is a superb young wine. These are ancient, ungrafted vines grown on the volcanic mountainsides of northern Tenerife, with the vines planted between three hundred and a thousand meters above sea level. The wine is barrel- fermented and raised in used Burgundy casks. The 2023 version is nicely ripe at 13.5 percent octane and delivers a superb nose of lemon, tart peach, a touch of passion fruit, volcanic soils, white flowers, a wisp of beeswax and gentle notes of vanillin oak from the older casks. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and precise, with a superb core of old vine fruit, great mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and impeccable balance on the long and vibrant finish. This is outstanding wine! 2025-2040. "
