Grassnitzberg 'Riff' Erste Lage Sudsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc

Austria
Styria
2021

Starting with the 2020 vintage, the Tement’s added the name of the microparcel to the bottle Grassnitzberg “Riff”. The wine in the bottle has not changed; it still comes from the same steep, Erste Lage site. Like the Zieregg, it’s fermented and aged in large, neutral oak casks, but for slightly less time, a total of 24 months. Bottled unfiltered.

"Masses of red gooseberries, redcurrants and Thai basil fill the compact and highly structured, medium- to full-bodied palate. The chalky finish has a wealth of herbal complexity and is very long. In fact, this one has no intention of ending at all. From organically grown grapes."

"The 2021 Ried Grassnitzberg Riff 1STK is coolish, pure and refined on the bright yet intense and lemony as well as saline and calcareous, Kimmeridgian nose that reveals saline and woodruff notes. Full-bodied, intense and textured on the palate, with a certain sur lie layer and a greenish/savory finish reminiscent of lime and lemon rind, this is a very saline but also juicy and less austere Sauvignon compared to Sernau König. It's very long, mineral and lemon-bitter on the finish."
