Penedes is situated in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia just over the hills from Barcelona and heavily influenced by Mediterranean climate. While it is most well known for its sparkling wines from Cava, it has also been an area where the production of still whites and reds has thrived for centuries. The soil types across Penedes are fairly similar with limestone, sand and clay all present. The climate is Mediterranean and mild with an average year round temperature of about 60 degrees F. The Tramontana wind blows in from France in winter, but is subdued by the Montserrat mountains which rise majestically above the wine country.
