Fixin 1er Cru les Arvelets

France
Burgundy
2023

From the north, this is the very first 1er Cru vineyard in the Côte d’Or. In Fixin, there are only five premier crus and three of them are monopoles. There is very little top soil on crinoidal limestone and sandy marl. Berthaut owns just under one hectare, planted in 1956, 1960 and 1980. Fermented and aged for 18 months in barrel (approximately 30% new). 50% whole cluster.

Very limited.

"This shows restrained aromas of dark cherries, blackberry bush, pencil shavings and blood oranges. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and balanced acidity, showing nervy, focused edge and a savory undertone. With a few more years in the bottle, this will really flourish."
