2020

Ansonaca/Vermentino/Trebbiano/Malvasia Toscano/Malvasia di Candia. 2018 was the first vintage of this "Bianco". It is an exception among Fonterenza wines, being sourced from a vignaiolo friend on the Tuscan coast, specifically the sandy, iron-rich soils of Capalbio. The varieties are co-planted and the organically farmed wines average around 60 years old. The bunches are harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously without sulfur in steel; it is a mix of destemmed and whole-cluster fruit that macerates briefly from 2 to 6 days. The wine is aged in a mix of old oak and cement and bottled without filtration.

"The 2020 Bianco is a slightly cloudy, orange-gold color with a wild bouquet of tangerine, exotic florals, gingery spices and incense. It’s soft-textured with a pleasant inner sweetness giving way to mineral-tinged peach that adds a savory edge. This tapers off with medium length and leaves the palate nicely refreshed, even as a coating of fruit concentration lingers. The Bianco is a blend of Trebbiano Malvasia, Procanico, Ravanese and Trebbiano where half of the fruit is fermented whole-cluster, and the other half macerates in the skins for eleven days. It’s an energetic and totally fun orange-styled wine."
