The 2022 bottling is composed of Syrah (98%) and Viognier (2%) from Grist Vineyard, perched atop Bradford Mountain in Dry Creek Valley. Situated 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean and above the fog line, the vineyard experiences a long, temperate growing season that allows the fruit to develop complex flavors at lower potential alcohol while retaining pronounced natural acidity. The vineyard's Boomer loam soils, derived from red volcanic rock, produce low yields and intensely concentrated fruit. The Syrah was fermented with one-third whole clusters, with 2% destemmed Viognier co-fermented, and aged for 11 months in neutral French oak barrels.
