Alicante IGT Costa Toscana

Italy
Tuscany
2021

New for this estate, this bottling is part of the "Monovarietali" project.  The grapes are sourced from a single parcel called "Vigna della Pieve," with sandy soils rich in pebbles, planted to Alicante Nero, a common Mediterranean variety also known as Grenache in France, Cannonau in the neighbouring island of Sardinia and as Garnacha in Spain. This vineyard sits at 250 meters above sea level. Fruit was harvested the first week of September at yields of 50 hl/ha. Vinification is part carbonic and part destemmed.  Aged 6 months in cement tanks.  6,000 bottles produced.

"This is a lovely wine that is beautifully perfumed and floral. The Ampeleia 2021 Alicante Nero (also known as Grenache) shows wild rose, exotic spice, white pepper and dried lavender bud. The wine offers tension and grace over a lovely, tonic finish. This is a red wine to enthusiastically recommend, especially at this price point."

"The 2021 Alicante Nero is a gorgeous, precise wine, Bright red-toned fruit, mint, orange peel, spice and sweet pipe tobacco are very nicely delineated, This deceptively light-bodied red packs plenty of punch. "
