Rosso di Montalcino

100% Sangiovese. Fonterenza's classic Rosso di Montalcino comes from five parcels across their hilly, contiguous 4.2 hectares of Montalcino vineyard. The vines are biodynamically farmed and average about 20 years old, planted on a diverse range of galestro-based soils; all are technically Brunello-qualified (but Fonterenza is constrained by a legal limit on their Brunello volume, which is tiny). Each of the parcels is harvested by hand and vinified separately. The bunches are destemmed by hand, gently pressed and fermented with native yeasts in open-top vats with a maceration of 15-20 days. The separate vinifications are blended and aged in old Slavonian oak botti ranging from 20 to 45 hectoliters for 24 to 30 months. The wine is bottled without filtration.

"The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is dark and rich, wafting up with exotic spices, cherries, plums and sweet rose tones. This is pure elegance on the palate, silky and refined, with ripe red fruits complemented by inner violet and lavender tones. Nothing seems out of place, as this beauty flows effortlessly across the senses and finishes long and staining, yet only lightly tannic, while leaving licorice and balsam herbs to linger long. This is another killer Rosso Fonterenza. "
