Champagne "La Montagne Nord" Grand Cru Extra Brut (Fins Bois)

France
Champagne
NV

A blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir from Verzy and Verzenay from the oldest vines. It’s aged in 80% neutral barrels and aged longer in bottle; a blend of 35% 2015 vintage, 35% 2014, 20% 2013, and 10% 2012. Peter Liem describes this wine as, “an elegantly assertive wine, anchored by a deeply resonant chalkiness.”

" It offers a superb aromatic constellation of white peach, apple, hazelnut, a complex base of soil tones, brioche, smoke, dried flowers and a deft touch of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and very precise, with a lovely girdle of acidity, fine mid-palate depth, very refined mousse and a long, complex, impeccably balanced and still quite youthful finish. This is a beautiful wine; with my penchant for dosage, I would have loved to have seen it finished with just a couple of grams to better buffer its still youthful acids, but I am sure that there are plenty of Champagne lovers who will find it immensely enjoyable already. For my palate, a couple more years in the cellar to let it soften up a bit more on the backend would be preferable. "

"Racy acidity and a sleek tang of salinity work in tandem to define flavors of crunchy pear, white cherry and chopped almond, with accents of oyster shell and light herbs. This is firm in structure but plushly textured on the palate. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay."
