Chardonnay Bishop Creek

2023

Of the 13.5 acres under vine at Nicolas-Jay’s Bishop Creek Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton, roughly 2.5 acres are planted to Chardonnay and 11 acres are planted to Pinot Noir. The majority of the vines were planted in 1988 and 1990 and are own-rooted. Adding to the site’s diversity, elevations range from 270 to 600 feet, with predominantly north–south plantings. Since Domaine Nicolas-Jay acquired the vineyard in 2014, all farming has been organic. The 2023 Chardonnay comes from the top of the vineyard on Willakenzie series marine sedimentary soils. The wine was barrel-fermented with native yeasts and matured for 14 months in French oak (25% new) before bottling.
