The 2023 Spirit Hill Chardonnay is Nicolas-Jay’s third release from this exceptional site in the Eola-Amity Hills. Eola-Amity’s climate is strongly influenced by the Van Duzer Corridor to the west, which creates a break in the Coast Range and allows cool ocean air to flow through. This lowers temperatures and helps grapes retain bright acidity as they ripen. Spirit Hill vineyard sits atop these expansive hills, with slopes oriented in every direction thanks to its amphitheater shape. Planted in 1996 on volcanic basalt (Jory) soils, the vines consistently produce small berries with high natural acidity and concentration. The wine was barrel-fermented with native yeasts and matured in French oak (38% new) for 14 months before bottling.
