Vino Bianco 'Fùnambol'

Italy
Emilia-Romagna
2023

A still white wine made from 100% Trebbiano di Spagna, from the 1ha Vigna Tiberia in Levizzano Rangone, 280m, facing west/northwest.  Harvest on Sept 12, at low yields of 12 hl/ha. Destemmed, gently pressed, no skin contact.  Fermented and aged in concrete, bottled under the rising moon of August 2, 2024. 2,130 bottles made.  The name means 'tightrope walker.'

"After many years of following in different ways the wine path, I came to the conclusion that I’m definitely driven by a 'white wine' mind and approach.  When I was first confronted with the Trebbiano di Spagna - the abandoned white grape that sapient hands were able to transform into the best balsamic vinegar - I was suprised that such a potentially talented grape would not see as many bottled wines attempts and the few I found were sparkling. Since 2016 I’m pursuing the making of a great still white wine from this hard to handle and very little-productive grape...Funambol is able to express complex aromatic layers as well as an oxydizing attitude, all of which sustained by a rich glyceric mouthfill capacity and a long lasting salty finish.”
